Upsi launches the World's First Open Handicap System for Disc Golf

Disc golf just got a lot more exciting.

Disc golf is one of the most accessible sports in the world and that’s a big part of its charm. From casual players with a single disc to those training with serious intent, anyone can take part. But when skill levels vary, the outcome is often predictable, reducing the competitive thrill for everyone.

With the release of Upsi’s groundbreaking new handicap system, anyone can challenge anyone to a meaningful head-to-head game. Whether you’re just learning to throw or chasing a rating goal, Upsi now levels the playing field—making every round fair, competitive, and fun.

The First of Its Kind… Anywhere 💥

This is the first open handicap system in the world for disc golf. It’s built right into the Upsi app, and it automatically adjusts scores based on each player’s current rating and the difficulty of the layout.

You don’t need to do anything special. Just start a round like you normally would. Handicap is on by default for Upsi Black subscribers, and each player’s adjustment is calculated instantly.

This means you can now have a real match with your friend, your kid, your parent—or even the local pro.

How It Works

In a handicap round, everyone plays against their own skill level and the best performance wins. You can even use it when playing alone, turning every round into a personal challenge.

• Handicap is applied automatically when starting a singles stroke play round

• Scores update in real time as each hole is played

• Everyone plays their own game, but now you all have a chance to win

• Spectators see adjusted scores live in the app, online, and in notifications

Handicap scoring is currently available for singles stroke play rounds. Other formats—like doubles, skins, or match play—use actual scores.

Available Now for Upsi Black subscribers

Handicap rounds are available to all Upsi Black subscribers—and in true Upsi fashion, only one player in the group needs a subscription to unlock it for the group on that round. Subscriptions start at just $1.67/month with a yearly plan.

And of course, rounds played with actual scores remain completely free.
